GARRY'S STORY

Hi, my name is Garry Lemire and I am with NCM. In 2004 we traveled to Lokore Kenya to build a community center. My job for the first 4 days was to haul water from a hand dug well 25kms away back to the construction site. One day while drawing water from the well, my knot came undone and the bucket fell back into the hole. I didn’t want to jump down into the hole and get the contaminated water on my feet. So I tied a rope to the Land Rover, repelled down the well and tossed up the bucket. When we finished loading up the containers, we tied plastic garbage bags over the containers to keep the water from spilling over. When we returned to the village and unloaded the containers, I noticed that some of the children had come over and poked holes in the bag and started sucking out the water. The same water that I didn’t want to put my feet in. It broke my heart for the children and we found clean water for them to drink.
